DO I NEED TO CONSULT WITH A BOARD-CERTIFIED DERMATOLOGIST BEFORE A HOO LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT?

Although laser hair removal is a relatively simple procedure, it is best to consult with the expert who is knowledgeable on skin types (certain skin types cannot be treated with laser or settings need to be adjusted because of the high risk of burning), skin ethnicities (South American or Spanish background are more prone to hyperpigmentation), and the quality of hair in the treatment area (white , grey, or very blonde hair cannot be treated with laser because these hairs have no more pigment in them).

WHAT DO I NEED TO SHARE WITH MY DOCTOR?

Be transparent with your doctor about the list of topical or oral medications, as well as history of intense sun exposure. Some oral or topical medications can increase the risk of burns. If you have just taken a trip to the beach and have tanned skin, it is advisable to postpone your treatment for another month.  Having laser treatment on tanned skin increases the risk of pigmentation (dark or light spots).

ARE THERE PRECAUTIONS I NEED TO TAKE PRIOR TO MY HOO LASER HAIR REMOVAL APPOINTMENT?

There should be at least a millimeter of hair growth when you come for your appointment.  Avoid plucking or tweezing your hair as the pigment in the hair bulb is the target of the laser treatment. The treatment area should also be clean, free from make up, lotion, deodorant, or sunscreen as they may block the laser energy during treatment.

HOW IS A HOO LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT LIKE?

Laser hair removal is a very well tolerated procedure. During the treatment, you will feel a rubber band snap with every pulse of the laser.  There will be redness and minute swelling around the hair follicles after the treatment. The procedure may take about 30 minutes depending on the treatment area. Some patients can also benefit from a numbing cream depending on the area and skin sensitivity.

ARE THERE ACTIVITIES I NEED TO AVOID AFTER A HOO LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT?

Stay away from strenuous activities, working out, or swimming after the procedure.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER A HOO LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT?

Expect 20% decrease in hair growth and thinner hairs a couple of weeks after the first treatment.  After a series of 6-8 treatments, there is about 90% permanent hair reduction.

HOW MANY HOO LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

Depending  on the treatment area, you will need 6-8 treatment sessions for permanent hair reduction then, touch ups, twice or once a year or only when there is hair growth.
